What does “grass fed grass finished” mean?
The short answer is grass fed grass finished cattle eat grass. Period.
Most cattle start their lives on pasture but are moved to grain during the finishing process to fatten them up. Even if the grain is non GMO or Organic (most isn’t), this changes the nutritional value and flavor profile of the beef. Hedgewood Farms cattle are never fed grain resulting in improved nutritional value and leaner, healthier beef.
Do you use antibiotics, hormones or pesticides?
We don’t use any preventative or non-therapeutic antibiotics; hormones or pesticides on our animals or pastures. Our rotational grazing practices help us minimize the risk of illness causing parasites and allows us to avoid regular treatments found in conventional cattle production. We will treat with therapeutic antibiotics when required for the health of the animal in concert with USDA Organic standards.
What is rotational grazing?
Rotational grazing is moving livestock herds or flocks to new area of pasture frequently. This has many benefits both for the grazing animals and for the health and quality of the pasture and soils.
Do you sell dairy products like milk and cheese?
We don’t currently offer dairy products.
Can I come visit your farm?
Of course! but call us first to make sure we aren’t out in the pasture with the cattle or the chickens. We do have on farm pickup as an option. Just place your order on-line in advance and call us, or wait to hear back from us to schedule a convenient time.
Are your products organic?
We raise and grow our products in alignment with USDA Organic standards. We are not USDA Organic certified but we have a strict policy of no pesticides, no herbicides, no general antibiotics and all organically sourced chicken feed.
